Hurricane Ana breezed through Hawaii in October and our Board of Directors rallied to tighten lines in anticipation that we might get some strong winds and a heavy surge. We did get the surge, but fortunately not the wind. Besides tightening the lines, we adjusted the platform that our gangway rests on and allowed it to move as the ship moved. The strategy worked in that the gangway stayed on the platform, although it did move the platform a couple of feet. We rigged up a Jacob’s Ladder just in case the ramp did come off. When the rain passed after Ana became a tropical storm, we reset the platform and plugged in our electrical outlet to be fully functional again.

Prior to the hurricane, we had the captain’s saloon treated for termites which have been ravaging the woodwork for a long time. The vendor is a “green” company so no toxic chemicals were used. The next step is to have an interior woodworker come in and give us a plan to refurbish the saloon and captain’s cabin.

The poop deck project is also underway with part of the deck sealed and plans to re-roof the charthouse and do some repairs in the interior of the house.

We do have need for volunteers to help with deck painting and the wooden rails and steps are in need of sanding and varnishing.

We know that there is great interest in the future of the Falls of Clyde. There is a lot going on that the Board of Directors is dealing with, so we felt that keeping stakeholders involved through a report on our website is the easiest way to reach our worldwide audience.
