Friends of Falls of Clyde has reached out to both local legislators and our Congressional team to garner support to allow us to remain at Pier 7 until we can finance our drydock and also to return after the drydock is complete. We will report on those contacts in future updates.
Friends of Falls of Clyde President Bruce McEwan was in Scotland during the past month and was able to meet with the Ship’s Manager of the historic vessel Glenlee, Andy Aire, in Glasgow. The maritime community in Scotland is very interested and concerned about the future of Falls of Clyde. The unfortunate negative KITV news story made its way to Britain and raised concern that people in Hawaii are not committed to saving the historic ship that it has been privileged to have in our harbor. Mr. Aire had some solid ideas based on the experience of the owners of Glenlee that will be help Friends of Falls of Clyde in our work. The challenges we face have been documented in news articles in England and Scotland. The head of the Glenlee owners organization, Frank Brown, has promised to reach out to his contacts and stimulate support. It cannot be stressed enough that Falls of Clyde is a recognized maritime treasure on an international basis.
