The big event this month was submission of our Maritime Heritage Grant to the National Park Service. We thank Governor Abercrombie, Representative Gabbard, and Kiersten Faulkner of the Historic Hawai`i Foundation for their letters of support. We should know about the grant award by December. We are still waiting to hear about other pending grant applications and continue to look for other appropriate corporate and foundation grant sources. What we need is one major donation that will show there is commitment in our community for this important preservation project and will then get other donors to contribute. For those who have read the book Catch 22, you understand our predicament in getting large donations.

We are also working with a professional fundraising consultant to generate individual donations. Our hope is to create an advisory team to guide us through that process.

This month also involved beginning work to seal the poop deck and eventually do repairs on the chart house.

Many thanks to those who took advantage of the annual Foodland "Give Aloha"  campaign and made a contribution to Friends of Falls of Clyde. We should know what we will receive shortly.

24 July-31 August 2014 posted Aug 31, 2014, 1:59 PM by Ling Ong As previously announced, our capital campaign is underway. We have been submitting grant applications to private foundations and will soon submit our federal grant application for the Maritime Heritage Grant. This will get us a good way towards the targeted $1.4 million that we have targeted for the drydock in our overall campaign goal of $3 million that will allow us to pursue some restoration projects on the ship after the basic hull work is done. The sooner we can raise the funds, the sooner we will be able to get into drydock.
Everyone following us on our website, our Facebook page, or the Facebook page of any of our board members are encouraged to send in a donation of any amount. Many small donations can make a difference. We need to turn our wonderful moral support into financial support. We have been getting grassroots donations, which we very much appreciate. We are looking at working with a fundraising consultant to help reach out to individual donors.
Starting September 1, the annual Give Aloha campaign at Foodland kicks off for the month. Anyone shopping at Foodland using your Maika`i card in September can add a donation for Friends of Falls of Clyde. Our non-profit number is 78512 or you can just mention our name. Remember that the donation is tax deductible.
Several board members worked on the ship this past Saturday to adjust lines for safety purposes. We are also planning to seal the poop deck with a special coating to keep out water from leaks. We recently put another coat of paint on the main deck to seal it and will be putting on another coat shortly. We have scheduled spot termite treatment for the Captain's salon to deal with the termite infestation in that area. Once done, we want to target the Captain's salon and cabin for our first major restoration project, which will then give us a showplace for people to visit.

    Bruce McEwan, President

We know that there is great interest in the future of the Falls of Clyde. There is a lot going on that the Board of Directors is dealing with, so we felt that keeping stakeholders involved through a report on our website is the easiest way to reach our worldwide audience.
