Since our last posting, our attempts to question and challenge the DOTHD and the Director of DOT regarding why they made the decision they did to withdraw the FOCI contract got no substantive response. With the clock ticking to the November election, it was clear that the outgoing administration could not take any adverse action. Our hope was that the new administration would listen to our arguments and those of FOCI to get the plan back on track. Ideally, since FOCI was vetted for the project, some negotiation between DOTHD and FOCI regarding changes resulting from the delay caused by the withdrawal could be worked out.
FFOC has scheduled a meeting in early January with the new Harbors Division leadership. Our purpose is to show how the former DOTHD failed to honestly respond to our questions that could have avoided the cancellation of the contract. We are hopeful that a review of the process will open the way for direct communication and negotiation with FOCI leadership.
FFOC believes that our mission can be fulfilled with the return of Falls of Clyde to Scotland where the FOCI plan will give her a 21st Century life and purpose before she reaches her 145th birthday in December 2023.
