The meeting with Harbors Division on November 4 was not particularly pleasant, although civil. Basically Friends of Falls of Clyde is being doubted about our ability to raise the funds for the drydock. There is still no understanding that an historic vessel restoration takes decades and not just a few years. There is also a continued concern about the safety of the harbor should the ship become a hazard to navigation, even though we have provided a detailed condition survey and the diagram showing how safely the ship is moored. We reviewed grant applications that we have pending and will be submitting and the likelihood that we will not know about them until sometime in next year. We have formally asked for leeway until the end of 2016 to raise the money and hopefully also get into drydock during the year. Our request is being “taken under advisement.”
On the positive side, we had a productive volunteer work day with students from the Asia Pacific International School (APIS). They were very eager to help and that is what they did. We got the main deck repainted, the charthouse, the steering gear, the electrical shed, and some other minor jobs. The pizza reward was appreciated. See the picture of the work team below

We also got a nice surprise from the management of the Cutty Sark in Greenwich, England. In their archives they found a picture of Falls of Clyde in drydock at the Union Iron Works in 1910. See below.

Friends of Falls of Clyde wishes all of our supporters a Happy Thanksgiving! We hope everyone has something important to be thankful for this year. We hope Harbors Division will give us something to be thankful for as we move forward with our mission. We ask for your support either through our current Indiegogo campaign or a direct donation through PayPal at our website www.friendsoffallsofclyde.org or mail to P.O. Box 4674, Honolulu, HI 96812. Get your tax deductible donation before the end of the year.

    Bruce McEwan, President

We know that there is great interest in the future of the Falls of Clyde. There is a lot going on that the Board of Directors is dealing with, so we felt that keeping stakeholders involved through a report on our website is the easiest way to reach our worldwide audience.
